The Maritime Industry Museum sits inside Fort Schuyler, a stone fort on the SUNY Maritime peninsula at the Bronx's eastern edge. Opened in 1986, its brick-vaulted casemates hold ship models from several eras, maritime art, and interactive displays on global shipping, anchored by a detailed scale model of the World War II Brooklyn Navy Yard. Part of the gallery doubles as working classrooms, and the collection sits a few feet from maritime cadets at their desks. Outside, the grounds open onto the water and the Throgs Neck Bridge, with quiet lawns and a giant ship propeller on display.
