🕯️ Altars That Hold a City's Memory

Downtown Día de los Muertos fills Gloria Molina Grand Park with 17 altars by artists and local organizations, each carrying the stories of people Los Angeles has lost. Curator Consuelo G. Flores built this year's exhibition around The Power of One, layering marigolds, papel picado, and framed portraits.

The exhibition is free with no ticket needed, open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM through November 2. The community altar welcomes a photo, a memento, or a message for someone you miss. Bring a copy and keep irreplaceable originals at home.

The two big days feel different. Saturday, October 24, from 11 AM to 4 PM, opens with an Ohtli Yollotl processional, live music, face painting, and sugar skull workshops. Noche de los Muertos closes the season on Sunday, November 1, from 3 to 7 PM, when candlelight and offerings light the altars after dusk. An RSVP link is posted for that night, but entry is free.

Take the Metro B or D Line to Civic Center/Grand Park. Leave folding chairs, glass, umbrellas, selfie sticks, and open drink bottles behind.
