Description

Laid out within the Dearborn Park housing development designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in the mid-1970s, the park occupies land acquired at the southern edge of the complex and transferred to the Chicago Park District in 1985. The grounds share a name with neighboring Roosevelt Road in honor of Theodore Roosevelt. Beyond founding the U.S. Forest Service, the "Conservation President" was an outspoken advocate for municipal open space, famously praising Chicago's South Side parks in 1907 as one of the most notable civic achievements of any American city.
