Ride a Working Miniature Train on Select Sundays
Climb astride a volunteer-run miniature train in Griffith Park, looping past tunnels and handcrafted tiny towns.
🚂 Run by the People Who Built It
The cars here run on 7 1/2 inch gauge track, wide enough for a grown adult to straddle and small enough to feel like a toy. Members built almost every car, switch and station on the grounds, and the same volunteers keep the line moving on Sundays from 11 to 3.
You sit astride a bench style car with your feet on the running board while the loop rolls past a hand built depot and a short tunnel. Every rider needs to clear 34 inches at the gate and weigh under 350 pounds, which leaves out babies in carriers or on laps, and volunteers check before you board. A quick measure at home saves the walk back to the car.
Rain stops the rides, the Sunday before Memorial Day and the first Sunday in October close the line, and the fare is a suggested 4 dollars per person.
