Not a Book Club: Read in Silence, Then Talk It Over, in the East Village
Start with silent reading, ease into one-on-one chats, and finish in group conversation at Kollectiv in the East Village on Nov 9.
🎫 The Nov 9 party at Kollectiv
📖 One book, four steps
Reading Rhythms runs the room in blocks. Everyone settles in with the book they brought, then comes a stretch of silent reading with the whole room, then a few minutes of one-on-one conversation with whoever sits beside you, then small-group discussion about what people are reading. There is no assigned title and no reading list. Curated music plays through the evening, and hosts facilitate each block from the first silent stretch to the closing discussion.
📚 The book drive is voluntary
The Nov 9 party adds a book drive to the usual format, and donating is optional. Bring the title you plan to read, and add spare copies only if you have them to part with. Children's and young-adult books go to Book Fairies, adult books to Housing Works Bookstore. That mix suits readers who want company and a low-pressure way to meet new people, more than readers who want a set text and a discussion leader to follow.
🚇 Tickets, arrival, refunds
The party runs 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Kollectiv, 21 E 1st St, an urban retreat center in the East Village. Single tickets come in three tiers, 20 dollars early-bird, 25 standard and 30 last chance, sold in advance through Luma with no door price listed. Tickets are final sale, no refunds under any circumstances, and the same terms cover photos and video that Reading Rhythms and other outlets in the room use for promotion.
