☎️ Follow the Dial Tone

Connections Museum on East Marginal Way turns a telephone call into something you can follow through a working central office. Volunteers run the Panel and No. 1 Crossbar switches on tours, taking you through the sequence that connected two handsets before digital exchanges. You can place a call through that equipment yourself, rather than leaving the network as an abstract idea.

Beyond the switching frames, the collection extends to switchboards, test desks, telegraph and teletype gear. Displays of poles, cable and splicing tools follow the equipment that carried conversations beyond the building. The collection began as the Herbert H. Warrick Jr. Museum of Communications and now runs under the Telecommunications History Group.

The museum is open Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM and closed every other day. A quick pass takes an hour, while a deeper technical exploration can stretch to three.
