Pier 57 Rooftop Sunset From a Free Public Park

Eat downstairs at the James Beard curated market, then head up to a free public roof that faces the Hudson for sunset.

Go up 45 minutes before sunset.

🌇 Downstairs, Then Up

Market 57 fills the ground floor with more than a dozen kiosks curated under the guidance of the James Beard Foundation. Nom Wah for dumplings, Essex Pearl for lobster rolls, Harlem Hops at Kiosk 17 for small batch beer. The hall runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and individual kiosks keep their own hours. Eat before the light goes, and expect some counters to close earlier.

The roof faces west across the Hudson, which is where the sun drops, over the water. Lower Manhattan sits to the south, downstream, not under the sunset. Walk to the south end, past City Winery, and take the stairs or elevator up from the entrance across from Little Island.

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before sunset to claim a spot at the rail, and stay for the blue hour that follows. The park opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 1 a.m. daily. Rooftop restrooms run 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wind off the water is colder than the street.
