Pershing Square Ice Rink: Palms Overhead, Then Angels Flight Up the Hill

Downtown LA's seasonal rink runs evening sessions under the towers, and the 1901 funicular a short walk away runs until 10:00 PM.

Skate at 7:30 PM, then ride uphill.

📍 Rink first, railway second

⛸️ An evening session at Pershing Square

The Holiday Ice Rink fills Pershing Square from November 12 to January 3, with palms and office towers on every side. Each session gives you 60 minutes on the ice, and a new one starts every 90 minutes, from 3:00 PM on most weekdays through the 9:00 PM slot. The 7:30 PM session ends at 8:30, which leaves time for the railway. Admission is $23.32 online, with skates included. Arrive 15 minutes early and use the park restrooms before lacing up. Skates stay at the rink, so return them before you set off.

🚃 Up Hill Street to Angels Flight

From the rink, walk north on Hill Street for about 10 minutes to the lower station at 351 S Hill St, across from Grand Central Market. Angels Flight first opened in 1901 and returned to service in 2017 after long closures; today the orange cars run daily until 10:00 PM. A one-way ride costs $1.50, or $0.75 with a loaded TAP card. Ride up to California Plaza, look back over the downtown lights, then ride down or walk on toward Grand Avenue.

🕘 How the evening fits together

Plan about two hours from rink check-in to the top station. Book the 6:00 PM or 7:30 PM slot online ahead of time. Some Mondays to Wednesdays lose the 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM sessions to private parties. The 9:00 PM session ends just as the railway stops at 10:00 PM, which is too tight. Bring layers and gloves, as the rink says ice-side temperatures run from balmy to chilly. Metro B and D trains stop at Pershing Square Station, and one TAP card covers the train and the funicular.
