park
Laid out in 1847 with a central Pulaski monument, this historic public square anchors Mercer House and local literary lore.
Description

Laid out in 1847 along Bull Street, this public square commemorates the Battle of Monterrey and anchors an 1853 central monument honoring General Casimir Pulaski, beneath which an unknown Revolutionary soldier is said to be buried. The surrounding blocks feature the 1851 Herman Kuhlman Duplex alongside Mercer House, home of Jim Williams and a prominent setting in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The square also houses Congregation Mickve Israel, noted for its Gothic-style synagogue dating from 1878.
