Description

The landscape here is a vast archive of Ancestral Pueblo history, stretching across the high ridges of Chapin and Wetherill Mesas. Visitors encounter these sites in their original terrain, where hundreds of cliff dwellings and mesa-top ruins remain embedded in the canyon walls. Because many of the most significant structures are tucked into remote areas, the primary mode of exploration is through ranger-led backcountry hikes. These sessions require participants to navigate into the park's more rugged sectors to reach the dwellings, offering a direct, closely managed way to survey the historical architecture in situ.
