Lotta's Fountain
4.3 (179)attraction
The city's oldest surviving monument, this cast-iron landmark was a vital gathering place after the 1906 earthquake.
Description

Standing at the intersection of Market, Kearny, and Geary streets, the fountain was donated in 1875 by entertainer Lotta Crabtree. In the chaotic aftermath of the 1906 disaster, residents converged around it to share news and reunite with loved ones. That history continues through an annual commemorative gathering held every April 18 at 5:12 a.m. to honor survivors and remember the earthquake, making this downtown monument a quick stop steeped in local lore.
