Description

Completed in 1931 as the final and most extravagant movie palace built along Broadway, architect S. Charles Lee’s theater extends its theatricality well beyond the auditorium. Downstairs, the venue preserves vintage amenities from its opening era, including a glass-ceilinged ballroom, marble-lined restrooms, and a historic nursery room. In the main hall, the focal point remains a three-dimensional stage curtain featuring horses crafted with real horse hair. Spanning three tiers of seating alongside basement gathering spaces, the property continues to operate as an atmospheric backdrop for filming, live performances, and special 35 mm screenings.
