Lamar Valley
4.9 (2,102)park
Yellowstone’s sweeping northern valley offers wide-open terrain for observing roaming bison, elk, wolves, and grizzlies.
Description

The Northeast Entrance Road follows the Lamar River straight through the valley floor. While bison, elk, and pronghorns often graze near the tarmac—or occasionally step right onto the road—spotting wolves and grizzlies across the open terrain usually means setting up with binoculars or a spotting scope around first light or late evening, when predator movement peaks. Several trails also extend into the surrounding landscape.
