Description

Born from the dredging of the Anacostia River over a century ago, the park is designated as a State Conservation Area and Critical Wildlife Area. The protected terrain shelters more than a hundred species of birds, mammals, and other wildlife across habitats that include vernal pools and tidal swamp forests. Walking paths deliver scenic views of the water throughout an expanse restricted strictly to environmental, educational, and recreational uses.
