🎨 The Planter Table

🪴 What the Morning Is

Kenny Scharf and Art Production Fund host a free, all-ages workshop from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, October 31, outdoors on the South Plaza between 48th and 49th streets, outside 10 Rockefeller Plaza. Rain moves the tables into the lobby of 10 Rockefeller Plaza. Children paint planters with characters drawn from Scharf's Living Sunshine Caverns, and every planter gets a plant. Registration is free and covers participating children only. Book each child a place in advance, and adults come along without one. The sign-up page does not show how many places remain. Do not plan on walking up without a booking.

🌱 Where the Planter Ends Up

Every planter is a one-of-a-kind piece, and the finished work stays on at Rockefeller Center. The children's artworks go on display as part of a public art exhibition and become part of a Sunshine Cavern installation designed by Scharf. A child's own brushwork ends up inside a commissioned artwork on the same campus. The official pages say the planters go on view afterward without giving a date. Plan on seeing them later in the season rather than the same afternoon.

🎃 Walk the Show It Joins

The tables sit inside Scary and the Dancers!, the free campus-wide Scharf exhibition that Art Production Fund and Rockefeller Center run from October 9 to November 1. Walk it after the painting. Scary, a 34-foot inflatable, holds the middle of Center Plaza, ringed by six dancing sculptures, with murals and sculptural works in the lobbies of 30, 10, 45, and 50 Rockefeller Plaza and more than 100 artist-designed flags overhead. The planters join this same exhibition, and October 31 is the fourth and final Art Sundae Saturday of the season.
