🌶️ Spice and Story

Java Indonesian Restaurant has carried the cooking of Java to 455 7th Avenue in Park Slope from 1992. Owner Ibu Rofia has run the family business from July 4 of that year, after previously managing Tamu in Soho, and the menu still centers on Javanese plates built on traditional Indonesian spices.

Fresh ingredients set the tone in the kitchen, which cooks with Halal meats across its meat dishes. Rijsttafel, Nasi Goreng, Sate, and Rendang all sit on the menu, and a group can order across the whole list in one sitting. The room stays casual and low key, a comfortable setting for a group dinner with friends or family.

Dinner runs from 5 PM to 10 PM Tuesday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday open earlier, from 1 PM to 10 PM, and Monday stays closed. Weekend afternoons give the longest stretch of the week for an unhurried Indonesian meal in Park Slope.
