Inwood Hill Park Sunset Route: Hudson Ridge to a Dominican Dinner
The first evenings after the clocks fall back put a Hudson sunset from Manhattan's last natural forest before 5 PM, with a Dominican dinner a short walk away.
🗺️ Forest ridge first, Dyckman Street second
🌲 Get to the Hudson ridge by about 4:30 PM
Take the A train to Inwood 207 St and walk about four minutes west on 207th Street to the Seaman Avenue edge of Inwood Hill Park. NYC Parks calls this the last natural forest and salt marsh in Manhattan, and the upper trails climb through it toward the western ridge. Give the uphill stretch about half an hour. From the high ground the view opens over the Hudson to the Palisades cliffs. On November 1 and 2, sunset lands around 4:51 PM, so aim to be on the ridge by about 4:30 PM and start up from Seaman Avenue near 4:00. Wear shoes with grip for rocky, leaf-covered paths.

🍲 Walk down to Dominican plates on Dyckman Street
Start downhill right after the sun drops, while civil twilight lasts until around 5:20 PM on November 1 and 2, and stay on the main paths. Leave the park at Dyckman Street for a five-minute walk to Republica, open from 4 PM on weekdays, at 160 Dyckman Street. The dinner menu lists mofongo cibaeño, La Bandera with rice and red beans, and chimi sliders on a Dominican beef patty, and the rooftop is heated through winter.

🧭 Plan the first early sunsets after the clock change
This is an early-sunset route for the first days after the clocks fall back on November 1. Sunset comes near 4:52 PM that Sunday and about 4:51 PM on Monday, then keeps creeping earlier through the month, so check the day's time and keep the same habit of about 20 minutes on the ridge before it. Then walk down and sit for dinner while it is still early. Skip it after heavy rain, when the rock trails turn slick. The Dyckman Street A train station sits about four minutes on foot from the restaurant for the ride home.
