Inside a Sunken San Antonio Quarry That Grew Into a Garden
A free garden folded into an old cement quarry, with stone bridges, koi ponds and a waterfall under limestone walls.
🌿 Down into the quarry bowl
You come for the waterfall and stay for the quiet. The path drops from street level into a bowl of limestone that once fed a cement plant, and the city noise falls away within a few steps. Stone bridges cross a green pond where koi gather in the shade, and the high walls keep the air cool even at midday.
Look for the pavilion at the far end, its roof line picked out against the rock, then take the side stairs for the view back across the water. The garden is free and needs no ticket, which makes it the easiest stop to add to a downtown morning.
Go before ten for the softest light and the fewest people on the bridges. Bring a camera, a layer for the shade, and time to sit.
