Hispanic Society: Free Sorolla Murals, Then Dominican Food a Block Away
A free ticket puts you in a room of 14 giant Sorolla murals, and a Dominican plate waits two minutes up Broadway.
🗺️ Two stops, one Broadway block
🎨 Fourteen canvases of Spain, one room
Book the free timed ticket on the museum's site, then walk through the iron gates on Broadway between 155th and 156th streets. Inside, Sorolla's Vision of Spain lines one gallery with 14 canvases nearly 12 feet tall, about 200 feet of fiestas, markets and dances painted across Spain between 1912 and 1919. Entry is free, with a suggested donation of 15 dollars, or 10 for NY, NJ and CT residents.

🍛 A Dominican plate one block north
Walk out the gates and head north on Broadway for about two minutes to Tropical at 3771, a small neighborhood Dominican spot. Reviewers describe plates of stewed and roast meat over rice, and the dishes they name most often are oxtail, pernil and mangú, along with sweet plantains and fresh juices. The kitchen stays open until 10 PM, or 9 PM on Sunday.

🕑 Plan it for Friday or Saturday
The galleries open Thursday to Sunday, noon to 5 PM, and close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. On Friday and Saturday, museum educators lead a free 2 PM highlights tour of about 45 to 60 minutes, and registration is required with limited space, so book it before you go. Take the 1 train to 157 St or the C to 155 St, then walk north to Tropical after the 5 PM close.
