Hilltop Trails And Basin Views In Baldwin Hills
Hike the ridgeline, cast at the stocked lake, and take in the Los Angeles basin from Kenneth Hahn in Baldwin Hills.
⛰️ From the ridge
Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area spreads across the Baldwin Hills in central Los Angeles, a hillside park of open lawns, oak and pepper trees, and paved trails that climb toward a ridgeline overlook. On clear days the view reaches from the downtown towers across the basin to the Pacific.
Lower terraces hold picnic groves, sand volleyball and basketball courts, playgrounds, and a stocked lake where anglers work the shoreline. A short climb leads to the Olympic Forest, planted with trees from the nations of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, and a small Japanese garden sits near the center of the park.
Trails connect upward to the Baldwin Hills stairs for a steeper workout, and weekends bring kite flyers and family cookouts onto the grass. A vehicle entry fee applies at the gate, and the loop roads stay open through the afternoon.
