Grouper is Liz Harris, who has recorded ambient music under that name from the mid 2000s onward. The live set moves through tape loops, guitar, and voice pushed far back in the mix. Pieces bleed into one another with no announcements between them. Silence carries as much weight as the notes, and the hall stays dark through most of the performance. Murmrr and Todd Abramson present this date, added to the calendar after the following night sold out.

You enter from West 43rd Street, hand over a ticket, and find a numbered seat in the orchestra or one of the two balconies. Ushers hold latecomers at the back and seat them in the gaps between pieces. Phones stay down for long stretches, and applause arrives in clusters rather than after every song. Levels sit low enough that seat creaks register, which shapes how the room behaves. Most people stay put from the first note to the last.

Doors open ahead of an 8 in the evening start on Tuesday, September 15, at 123 West 43rd Street in Midtown. Book early. The following night has already sold out. Bring a layer, the hall runs cool once it fills. The first balcony gives the cleanest sightlines, worth the extra minutes on the stairs. It suits anyone who wants to sit still and listen closely. If you were hoping for a standing show with a bar at the back, this is not that.
