Behind the counter at this Elmhurst storefront, owner Louie and his father work the kitchen and chat with whoever walks in. An Army veteran opened the shop 17 years ago, and the room still carries a classic, old school feel.
Mozzarella, basil, and chunks of tomato go into much of what leaves the kitchen, and the grandma slice is the order to start with. Freshly made pasta dishes and notably massive salads stretch a slice stop into a full Italian comfort meal, with prices that stay inexpensive.
The shop sits on Baxter Avenue, a short train ride or walk from Citi Field, with dine in or delivery on offer. The family friendly room makes an easy stopover on the way to or from the stadium.
Hours run from 11 AM to 10 PM Monday through Saturday, while the shop stays closed all day on Sunday, the one gap in an otherwise steady week.
