Description

Operating since 2011, this is the first stand-alone museum of LGBTQ history and culture in the United States, drawing on deep archives to chart San Francisco's queer past. Wide-ranging exhibitions emphasize diversity and social justice, featuring material on Harvey Milk and the AIDS crisis. Though compact, the galleries are curated with the care of a larger institution. A dividing wall screens off one corner displaying sexually explicit video material, so visitors can easily bypass it.
