Gagosian Opens Its West 21st Street Rooms to Anyone

A soaring Chelsea room with two massive exhibition spaces, free to enter and open on weekday afternoons only.

Walk in on a weekday afternoon.

🖼️ Start with the big room

Gagosian sits at 522 West 21st Street in a soaring, light-filled space that holds two massive exhibition rooms at once. The programme runs to monumental scale, soak-stain canvases on one wall and detailed contemporary painting on the next, and staff are usually on hand to explain what the artist was working from. Entry is free and nobody asks why you are there. The gallery opens at ten and closes at six from Monday to Friday, and it does not open at all on Saturday or Sunday. Most visitors give it fifteen to forty five minutes. Give it an hour, take the larger room first, and leave before the light goes.
