Forest Trails for Long Walks, Green Pockets for Pauses

Walk a short, well-marked nature route, follow longer paths through quiet woods, or stop at small outdoor spaces with ponds, hives, art, and sunset views. Families, dog walkers, and commuters each get a distinct way to linger outdoors.

Woodland and Garden Stops

Quiet Block, Weekend Access

At 370 E 8th St, Green Oasis & Gilbert's Sculpture Garden offers a shaded East Village pause with a koi pond, active honeybee hives, and room for local art and performances. Weekend programming can include tie-dye shirt making, and a kids' corner gives families another point of interest. Regular public hours are Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and weekends from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entry is free. Bring bug spray.

Heyerdahl Foundation, Forest Route Guide

Families can begin at Greenbelt Nature Center in Staten Island with the short, easy, well-marked Nature Center trail. The wider preserve offers over 35 miles of paths through quiet forests, beside local golf courses, and toward vernal ponds along the N trail. Dogs can join the walk, with a water dish at the center. The facility has restrooms and nature exhibits. Visit Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Garden Junction, Any Hour

Greenstreets sits where Queens Boulevard, Thomson Avenue, and Van Dam Street meet in Long Island City. This small outdoor space gives commuters a brief place to pause during transit. Visitors point to the busy corner for scenic sunset views, especially as daylight fades across the surrounding streets. Entry is free to the public. The site is open 24 hours every day, making it possible to stop during a late trip or an early walk.
