🥁 Sunday Gathering in Flatbush

⭕ The Mbongi Circle and Live Drums

The afternoon opens inside Fit4Dance with an Mbongi circle, where participants gather in an open ring to ground themselves before dancing begins. Live drumming drives the room as instructors lead traditional Congolese rhythms and songs, letting everyone share space without performing. This is a community gathering rather than an audition, where movement and song connect neighbors directly. No dance experience is needed.

🌿 Grounded Warmups and Traditional Steps

Dancers move from gentle breathing into Pilates and yoga-based stretching, waking up the spine and legs before picking up tempo. The class introduces classic footwork from the Congo Basin, moving step by step with the drummers so participants feel the rhythm in their feet. Repetition keeps the floor comfortable for newcomers, focusing on shared energy over technical precision. The studio floor stays warm and informal throughout each combination.

👟 Practical Prep and Studio Arrival

The session runs from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at 21 Snyder Avenue in Flatbush, just a short walk from the Beverly Road subway station. Wear breathable athletic clothes and bring a water bottle for the floor, as movement continues steadily through the hour and a half. Admission is completely free with advance signup through the studio schedule. The session also includes mindful meditation to settle the body before stepping back onto Snyder Avenue.
