Description

Built on state highway land at 18th and Utah streets, the park takes its name from a late-1960s freeway accident that knocked down the original pedestrian overpass. The span was rebuilt to re-stitch pockets severed by the 1950s construction of US 101, leading directly across to the Benches mini park on San Bruno Avenue.

Following years of neglect, community grants revitalized the grounds with improved nighttime lighting, stone borders, and a landscaped circular path under the footbridge bordered by trumpet vines. Today, neighborhood district crews augment city upkeep to maintain the plantings, courts, and seating above the freeway corridor.
