Fall Color and a Hudson River Sunset in Fort Tryon Park

Walk the Heather Garden, then climb to Linden Terrace to watch the Palisades as the sun drops before 5 PM in early November.

Arrive by 4 PM for the light.

🍂 From Garden Beds to the Highest Terrace

Fort Tryon Park covers 67 acres above the Hudson, designed by the Olmsted Brothers and finished in 1935. Start in the Heather Garden beside the promenade and look over which trees have turned, then follow the promenade north to Linden Terrace, the park's highest point at 268 feet, facing the river and the Palisades. Allow about an hour. Paths climb steadily and some shortcuts use stone stairs. After November 1, sunset lands near 4:50 PM and slips to about 4:43 PM by November 10. Thick cloud can mute the sky, and wind picks up on the terrace after dark. Bring a warm layer, a hat and gloves, and take the A train to 190th Street.
