🥘 Ethiopian Plates in Sunnyside

Makina Cafe serves Ethiopian food in Sunnyside, cooking Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes at 46-11 Skillman Ave in Queens. The kitchen grew out of a celebrated food truck, with injera bruschetta leading into berbere spiced prawns, chicken tibs, and lamb alicha. Vegetarian samplers bring spicy lentils, pumpkin, and carrot in a balance of textures. Teff injera and rice give diners gluten free options for strict diets, and staff will remove certain ingredients on request. The bar pours fat washed whiskey cocktails and honey wine, with fresh baklava to finish. Dinner runs 5 PM to 10 PM Tuesday through Friday, weekends open at noon, and reservations help on packed nights.
