EBT Gets Two Adults Into the Academy Museum Free, Then Pastrami on Fairfax

A screen-used pair of ruby slippers from 1939 sits in a level two gallery at the Academy Museum, and a California EBT card covers two adult tickets. About 20 minutes north on Fairfax, a deli open since 1931 bakes its own bread.

EBT cards get two adults in free.

🗺️ Two stops on Wilshire and Fairfax

🎟️ Start where the card gets you in

General admission is $25 for adults. A California EBT card takes two of those adult tickets to zero: book on the museum's tickets page, type the first six digits of the card where it asks for a promo code, and the pair comes through free. Extra tickets stay at the regular price. Visitors 17 and under are free with a ticket, and the museum closes Tuesdays. The slippers are on level two, in the Wanda Gallery, inside the Identity exhibition, which is scheduled to run through February 21, 2027; single objects can change before then. The pair on view was worn on screen in the 1939 film.

🥪 Then walk north for pastrami

Fairfax Avenue runs north from the museum to Canter's, about 1.1 miles, or roughly 20 minutes at a relaxed pace with a few lights. The deli has held this corner since 1931, and the menu runs from matzo ball soup to the hot pastrami sandwich, with bread and pastries baked on site. The deli counter is walk-in, and on weekdays the doors open at 6 AM.

🚶 How the afternoon fits together

A weekday afternoon is the calmer run. Arrive close to the 10 AM opening, give level two about an hour, then head north before the dinner crowd. The EBT booking covers the two adult tickets; a TAP card is a separate $2 off the full adult price, not a free pass, and it is presented in person at the Winkler Welcome Center. Garages around the museum charge for parking, and a bus stop sits next to the building. Saturday Canter's runs around the clock.
