Two glass towers project faces of Chicagoans spouting water into a shallow reflecting pool made for wading.
Description

Spanish artist Jaume Plensa adapted the traditional fountain gargoyle by replacing mythological figures with video portraits representing a cross-section of 1,000 Chicago residents. Set within fifty-foot glass block towers, screen outlets release water to create the illusion of spouting from the subjects' mouths. While the faces remain on display throughout the year, the water features operate only from mid-spring to mid-fall.
