Description
Today, this space serves as a community gathering spot equipped with benches and kids' play areas. Its quiet paths hide a contentious past; the land was originally farmed by 17th-century Dutch settlers who knew the area as Punkiesberg. It received its modern name in 1776, when the Continental Army named the site after a fortified hill in Boston during the Battle of Long Island.
