Affectionately called “The Bean,” this seamless steel sculpture mirrors Chicago’s skyline in a giant, liquid curve.
Description

Conceived by British artist Anish Kapoor as his first public outdoor work in the United States, the 110-ton elliptical sculpture was inspired by liquid mercury. While its polished stainless plates reflect the overhead clouds, a 12-foot-high arch leads into a concave chamber beneath the sculpture. There, visitors are invited to touch its mirror-like surface and see their reflections return from a variety of perspectives. Measuring 66 feet long by 33 feet high, the installation stands as one of the largest works of its kind, set upon AT&T Plaza.
