Central Park: The Mortar-Free Huddlestone Arch
Wander through the rugged North Woods to reach an 1866 dry-stone arch built entirely without mortar.
🍁 Dry-Stone Arch in the Ravine
Early to mid-November can bring late-fall colors to the North Woods, turning the Adirondack-inspired canopy golden. Take the B or C train to 103rd St and enter at West 106th St for a suggested 60-minute, 1-mile walk. Follow the stream through the Ravine to Huddlestone Arch, an extraordinary 1866 crossing assembled entirely without mortar from massive Manhattan boulders. Note that the rustic trail has steep inclines, stone stairs, and uneven terrain, before ending at Harlem Meer.
