Description
The park commemorates Captain Jacob Joseph, a New York native who left Columbia University as a junior in 1938 to enlist in the Marines. Coming from a family dedicated to civic affairs and religious education, Joseph served in World War II and died in action at Guadalcanal in 1942. Five years after his death, a local law officially dedicated this neighborhood space to his memory.
