Manhattan Bridge

Completed in 1909, the suspension span links Lower Manhattan directly to Downtown Brooklyn. Engineered by Leon Moisseiff, its approaches are marked by ornamental entrance portals by Carrère and Hastings. Along with footpaths, the bridge provides a separate bikeway for cyclist traffic. Crossing it comes with clear urban texture: visitors frequently note loud subway traffic and weathered, dirty walkways, balanced by expansive vantage points over the harbor and the Brooklyn Bridge that turn cinematic as sunset hits the water.
