Burnham Park Promontory Point
4.8 (1,821)park
Jutting into Lake Michigan, this park pairs limestone rocks and open green spaces with sweeping Chicago skyline views.
Description

Locally known as "The Point," this parkland emerged from Daniel Burnham’s 1909 lakefront plan and was realized through naturalistic design by landscape architect Alfred Caldwell. The grounds center on a historic fieldhouse, an artsy pedestrian tunnel, and a distinctive limestone council ring and fire circles set along the edge. Shaded lawns and shoreline access accommodate swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking, with quiet margins left for reading under the trees or watching the lake waves roll against the stone.
