Description
The park's namesake, Walter Bowne, served as a state senator and New York City mayor from 1828 to 1832. He is remembered for his strict policies to prevent cholera epidemics. During the summer of 1832, following reports of an outbreak in a neighboring town, Bowne established a stringent quarantine policy regulating travel in and out of the metropolitan area.
