Pier 3 carries deep San Francisco ferry history, and public entry is free. Fishers work the edge while visitors look toward Coit Tower, Alcatraz, and the Bay Bridge, stopping for a snack or an evening look across the water. The site is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM and is closed on Mondays. Evening cruises leave from the dock, with three decks offering distinct musical moods.
Coastal History, Broad Horizons
Across 1,500 acres in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Presidio pairs historic military architecture with open space. Public entry is free, and hiking trails lead toward sandy beaches and scenic overlooks. Outdoor venues sit across the public grounds. The park is located at Montgomery Street and Lincoln Boulevard. A partnership of the Presidio Trust, National Park Service, and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy manages the landmark.
Play Above the Roadway
Built over highway tunnels, this park sits beside the beach. Lawns open toward Golden Gate Bridge views. Paved paths pass protea gardens and wooden benches. A nature playground and curiosity labs give children places to explore. Picnic sites sit near rotating food vendors, which provide food for an outdoor visit. The public park is open daily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Dogs are welcome across the open space.
