Bay Ridge's 69th Street Pier at Sunset, Then the Fisherman's Meal at Tanoreen

Watch the sun drop to the right of the Verrazzano from a Bay Ridge fishing pier, then walk inland for Palestinian plates.

Arrive 30 minutes before sunset.

📍 Pier to dinner on foot

🎣 Sunset from the fishing pier

Start where Bay Ridge Avenue meets Shore Road. NYC Parks calls the American Veterans Memorial Pier the neighborhood's go-to fishing spot, with views of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. Walking out is free. Head out past the people casting lines and face the water: the bridge sits on your left and the sun drops to its right. In November, sunset moves from about 4:50 PM to about 4:30 PM, so check that day's time before you leave.

🐟 The fisherman's meal at Tanoreen

From the foot of the pier, walk up Bay Ridge Avenue and down Third Avenue to 7523 3rd Ave, about 1 mile or 20 minutes. Chef Rawia Bishara opened Tanoreen in 1998 as a ten-table storefront, later made her daughter Jumana a partner, and the Michelin Guide lists it as a Bib Gourmand. After a fishing pier, order the Sayadiyah ($34), which the menu calls the fisherman's meal: spiced rice with shredded fish, caramelized onion and almonds, topped with fried red snapper. Hummus is $14 and meat grape leaves $15, before tax and tip. Tanoreen is closed on Mondays.

🧭 How the evening runs

Go Tuesday to Sunday. Take the R to Bay Ridge Av (4th Avenue and 69th Street, no elevator) and walk west about 20 minutes, or ride NYC Ferry's St. George route to the pier, about 25 minutes from Wall St/Pier 11. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset with a layer for the harbor wind. Book Tanoreen on Resy for about an hour after sunset. After dinner, the R station is a 10-minute walk.
