Balkan Bites Meet a Hot Sand Brew

Sip cardamom or hazelnut Turkish coffee alongside a savory burek or baklava in Williamsburg.

Ask Val about the sand brew.

🫖 Coffee From Hot Sand

At 5 Withers Street in Williamsburg, Balkan Grind puts the cezve in hot sand and lets the ritual lead. The traditional kumda kahve method turns out a strong, classic cup, and the infused Turkish coffees add cardamom or hazelnut for a softer turn. Order one of each and taste the difference side by side.

Food follows the same Balkan line. Simit, savory bureks, and sweet baklava fill out the menu, with portions sized for a light but filling meal. A burek with a classic cup makes a full late breakfast, and baklava with a hazelnut brew covers the afternoon sweet tooth.

Owner Val anchors the cafe with energetic hospitality, and the sand brew is the obvious first question to bring to the counter. Monday through Wednesday run from 9 AM to 4 PM, while Thursday and Friday open early at 8 AM and close at 4 PM, with Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
