A Woodside Park with Sports, Play, and Seasonal Water
Shoot hoops or play handball, then circle the running track beside a playground and a sloping forest edge in Woodside.
Courts and Play 🏀
Lawrence Virgilio Playground packs a whole Woodside afternoon into one neighborhood park. The WPA built it in the 1930s, and it was later renamed for a local firefighter who died on September 11. A sloping forest borders one half of the grounds, and the open spaces pull in soccer games and athletic practice.
Bring a ball. Handball and basketball courts share the park with a running track, and the playground keeps younger kids busy between laps. In warm weather the seasonal outdoor pool adds a cooler option for the whole crew, with benches nearby for parents who want a seat.
The park is open daily from 6 AM to 9 PM, which leaves room for an early run before work or a few rounds of handball after dinner. Pack sneakers, a ball, and a towel in summer, then split the day between the courts, the track, and the playground without ever leaving the park.
