The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory rises over the grounds, a curved Victorian glasshouse of white steel and glass that reads like a small crystal palace from above. Inside, seasonal installations fill the wings, and each spring the conservatory stages one of the largest orchid displays in the country. Beyond the glass, gravel paths thread through rose gardens, a rock garden, and the fifty-acre Thain Family Forest, the last stand of old-growth woodland in the city. Trams loop the property for anyone pacing the distance, and the Bronx River cuts through the middle on its way past the old stone mill.
