The collection fills a single Williamsburg storefront on Metropolitan Avenue, packed floor to ceiling with the odds and ends of city history. Glass cases hold seltzer bottles, subway tokens, and fragments of vanished city buildings, alongside a shrine to Jackie Robinson and souvenirs from two World's Fairs. A drawer of geological samples lets you handle the bedrock that Manhattan skyscrapers stand on. Rotating shows and block-party events fill out the calendar, and the volunteer staff talk through the stories behind each object. The museum opens Thursday through Sunday on a suggested donation.
