A small Lady Liberty looks over Elliott Bay

Pause by the water in late afternoon, with Elliott Bay and Seattle’s skyline in view.

Take a late afternoon bay pause.

🌅 Late Light, Local Story

Late afternoon makes a natural pause along the Alki waterfront. A small Lady Liberty stands beside Elliott Bay, with the Seattle skyline across the water. Let the bay set the pace for a few minutes, then take in the scale of the statue against the open shoreline. This is a compact landmark with a broad view, an easy pause between stretches of an Alki walk.

There is a distinctly local story behind the familiar silhouette. Local Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts first erected the statue in 1952 as part of the Strengthen the Arm of Liberty campaign. The statue was rededicated in 1989 for the centennial of Washington. The open air plaza is also a regular waypoint on the Alki walking tour route managed by the Southwest Seattle Historical Society. That connection gives the waterfront pause another layer, tying the view to a local history walk without turning the stop into a full itinerary.

Take a breath by the water, then continue along Alki with the skyline still in view.
