A New York Week of Seasonal Plans to Actually Make
A citywide mix of haunted rooms, neighborhood rituals, food and a quieter story night, with room to reset between plans.
🕯️ Monday, Begin With A Gentle Haunt
The Cabinet Mezcal Bar's seasonal pop up is a gentle first move into the week, with glowing pumpkins, cobwebbed shelves, and twelve themed drinks. It is free to enter, though reservations are available, and the atmosphere leans playful rather than extreme. Start here when you want a low commitment night, and keep the spirit free choices in mind if the group is not drinking.
🍺 Tuesday, Make Room For Costume Season
Loreley Beer Garden turns its Lower East Side space into a seasonal set piece with Pumpkin Kegs, Halloween cocktails, themed bites, and costumes welcome. Admission is free, making this an easy after work plan with room for a drink and a walk. Arrive in layers, and bring a costume detail if you want to match the garden's full seasonal mood.
🧟 Wednesday, Walk Through A Haunted Hotel
At LeFrak Center at Lakeside, the haunted hotel is a 25 minute walkthrough through a zombie overtaken building with dark corridors, service areas, a restaurant, kitchen, boiler room, and honeymoon suite. The attraction is recommended for ages 13 and up. Wear shoes you can move in, and leave transit time for a route that keeps the action indoors but not necessarily calm.
🦩 Thursday, Keep Halloween In Daylight
Boo at the Zoo makes the Bronx Zoo a daylight Halloween plan, with magic shows, seasonal animal displays, and outdoor programming for young kids. Costumes are encouraged, weather can change the rhythm, and advance reservation is required with regular admission. This is the week's family reset, so plan a layer and leave room for weather permitting outdoor programming.
🐾 Friday, Make A Thoughtful Detour
At Pier 83, the North Shore Animal League America mobile event pairs a waterside meet and greet with the 2026 nighttime Pup Cruise. You can meet puppies, dogs, and kittens looking for homes, but adoption requires an interest form, registration, appointment, approval, and age 21 or older. Treat it as a thoughtful Friday detour, and leave extra time for the adoption process.
💜 Saturday, Shop The Spooky Side
Yume's Lavender Scare folds a craft market into an 18 plus Halloween party, with more than a dozen vendors, community crafts, games, tarot readings, raffles, a photobooth, and a costume contest. Free RSVP and VIP options are listed, and masks are required. Choose your ticket path, then plan a look that works for a room where the mask stays on.
📖 Sunday, End With A Ghost Story
Sunday closes with a community reading of Washington Irving's classic ghost story on the porch at Lefferts Historic House, followed by an informal discussion with staff and program partners. The event is free, RSVP is required, and the program also addresses the site's histories of slavery and Indigenous and African resilience. Bring a layer for a porch based conversation in late October.
