Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Gather on the porch for a community reading of Washington Irving's classic ghost story, which features numerous references to the prevalence of slavery in 18th-century southern New York and descriptions of a Dutch American plantation house similar to the venue itself. This event is part of an initiative to re-envision museum programming and explore the lives and resilience of Indigenous people and the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family. Stay after the reading for an informal discussion with staff and program partners.
