A Korean Monument With a 1976 Story in San Pedro

Explore painted woodwork above the port, then follow walking paths through Angels Gate Park.

Plan a walk around the bell.

🔔 A Bicentennial Gift

The Korean Friendship Bell gives San Pedro a meeting point between a monument and an everyday public park. Set in Angels Gate Park, the bronze bell stands inside a pavilion, with the open grounds stretching beyond it. Take a moment here before walking farther into the park.

The Republic of Korea presented the bell in 1976 to honor Korean War veterans and celebrate the U.S. bicentennial. The pavilion brings together traditional Korean architectural motifs, multicolored paint and hand carved woodwork. Look across the Los Angeles harbor toward the Long Beach skyline, then turn your attention back to those details.

Walking paths draw dog walkers, while casual basketball games give the grounds another pace. Around sunset, people linger in the stiff coastal breeze. Make space in the afternoon for both the monument and a walk, with a pause to watch the waterfront before heading on.
