A Hidden Oasis in Midtown Manhattan
Step off East 43rd Street into a hushed, 12-story glass atrium where greenery climbs toward the light.
🌿 Forty Kinds of Green Under Glass
Completed in 1967, the Ford Foundation was designed by architects Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo, and its 12-story indoor atrium garden was one of the earliest of its kind in the United States.
Stepping inside feels like leaving Manhattan's fast pace behind. Sunlight streams down from above as greenery climbs through the space. The garden holds nearly 40 varieties of trees, vines, and shrubs, along with a pond and fountain.
Sitting here, you can briefly forget that you are still in the heart of one of New York City's busiest districts.
The garden is generally open to the public Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Advance reservations are required, and registration must be completed by 5:00 PM the day before your visit. Check the official website for the latest opening information before you go.
