A Little Lake Como Just Outside NYC

A hilltop garden of marble colonnades, sphinx-lined water canals, and Hudson views, restored and free to wander on a weekend.

Catch the Hudson Line up for a slow garden morning.

🚂 Getting there from the city

The garden sits on a Yonkers hillside above the Hudson, and the ride up is half the appeal. Metro-North's Hudson Line runs from Grand Central to Greystone in about 40 minutes, and it is a short uphill walk from the platform to the gate. Inside, the restored Walled Garden unfolds around a sphinx-lined water canal, the domed Temple of Love looks out over the river, and a long stone Vista drops toward the water. Admission is free. Come on a clear weekend morning, bring water, and give yourself a couple of hours to climb and linger.
